The technical team installed an optical network in the swamp area using emergency lighting during nighttime work.

Banjarmasin, July 21, 2025 – The ICT Team of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM) carried out repairs on a damaged optical network in the area around Politeknik Negeri Banjarmasin.

The repair work took place from Monday night to early Tuesday morning (July 21, 2025), involving several ICT team members, including field technicians and ULM ICT staff who were directly on-site handling the issue.

The team’s task was to reconnect broken optical cables that had been damaged due to muddy and waterlogged field conditions. The process was quite challenging as the location was near a swamp, making access difficult.

The repair was conducted along the network cable route from Brigjen H. Hasan Basry Street toward the Politeknik Negeri Banjarmasin area.

The work began at 11:00 p.m. WITA and continued until dawn to ensure the network was fully restored.

The repair was necessary because the optical network disruption had affected internet connectivity in several campus units, requiring immediate action to maintain optimal service.

The repair process involved digging, rerouting cables, and reconnecting the optical lines using specialized tools. The team worked carefully under slippery and dim conditions, relying solely on emergency lighting.

With the completion of this repair, the university’s internet access has returned to normal, once again supporting academic and administrative activities throughout ULM.

Several technicians prepared the optical cable installation route along the edge of the swamp to ensure the network could be properly installed.
